You are always told to drink lots of water. There are many good reasons – water is essential for whole body health. But why is it important for skin specifically? One major reason is natural water loss from skin. In skincare, we call this transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

1. Water is constantly evaporating into air (except if you are in a very humid climate). Evaporation is even faster if you live in a dry or polluted area.

2. If you’re not drinking enough, the water reserves in your body are used first for other, more life-essential metabolic activities. Your skin takes a back seat. It ends up dehydrated and less plump. (Water is an important component of skin that gives it volume). With less water for detoxifying, skin also looks dull and suffers more issues.

Skin care products help your skin hold onto water. Many have water-binding ingredients (called (humectants).

COMMON MYTH

A toner does NOT add water to skin. Skin gets its water from *internal sources* – what you drink and eat.

What a toner does is HOLD ONTO THAT WATER longer. So you need to drink water AND use skin care products for healthy, glowing skin.
